  • What will I be doing?

Clearing out the garden and putting in proper walkways by digging out about 2 inches of dirt and scrubbing down old brick paths that have been buried under mud and clay. After packing the ground down nice and firm, you’ll lay out weedblock and finish everything with a fresh layer of mulch, bricks, and crushed concrete.

  • Where do I go?

1319 N. Alexander Street (dead end), Charlotte, NC 28202

  • Where can I park?

Free parking is available on the street by the garden. Carpooling is encouraged.

  • What should I bring/wear?

Gloves, hats, shoes that cover the entire foot and that have sturdy soles. Do not wear crocs, sandals, flip flops etc. Bring or wear insect repellent, sunblock or sun screen. Shade is available in the yard in front of the garden.

Dress for the weather, possibly in layers. Long sleeves or garden sleeves are recommended, but not required.

You can bring a camping chair for sitting.

  • What will be provided by the host?

The needed tools and supplies for the project.

  • Any special considerations?

Bathrooms are within a short driving distance, but not on site. The work is outdoors with nature and insects. Potential accessibility issues for walkers and wheelchairs due to terrain.

  • What if it rains?

Projects will continue in light rain. In case of heavy rain or unsafe weather, the rain date is Friday, May 1st, same times.

  • Any more questions?

Contact your team representative for any questions leading up to the event.

Learn More About Little Sugar Creek Community Garden

Protecting, conserving, and restoring North Carolina wildlife and habitat.

The mission of the Little Sugar Creek Greenway Community Garden (LSCG) is to bring the residents of Mecklenburg County together to experience fun and fellowship while learning eco-friendly gardening methods and techniques. Classes are regularly held onsite to teach people various methods of eco-friendly gardening. These classes include sessions on composting, soil management, toxicity reduction and seed saving, fresh food harvesting, preparation and preservation.

This garden is an active Friendship Gardens network member, donating over 10% of its produce to Friendship Trays, the areas meals-on-wheels program. Because of this dedication to the public, LSCG is regularly recognized as “The People’s Garden” by the USDA and Keep America Beautiful, Inc

Little Sugar Creek Community Garden is a communal food-share garden with the belief that everyone should have access to fresh food regardless of income. Keeping strong to this belief, Little Sugar Creek has developed into a very successful collective gardening project that is open to any resident of Mecklenburg County. We are a very diverse group of growers and we work as a group to tend and harvest the garden.

The garden is a rich and growing part of the fabric of the Mecklenburg area. We have fostered partnerships with great agencies such as Hands on Charlotte, The Charlotte Bobcats, Civic by Design, Johnson & Wales University, Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful, Charlotte Green, Neighborhood Good Samaritan Center and the Community Culinary School of Charlotte.

With many talents present in the garden, Little Sugar Creek is able to provide its visitors and garden family a complete healthy lifestyle option.
