Eno River Cleanup
Fri. April 11th, 9-11:30am
Lunch Celebration: 12-2pm
This is the Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (FMST) Eno River sections first workday on a new project, to reroute the MST off of the Old Oxford Road across the Eno River in Durham and instead to route the trail under the bridge, down river several hundred yards, and then across the river on the old Lynchburg and Durham Road Bridge, the current version of the bridge built in 1903, and unused since around 1980. There is currently an ongoing effort to purchase the rail line from Durham to Roxboro, a distance of 27 miles in Durham and Person County to convert to a rails-to-trails project, including this bridge over the Eno. More information at: https://durham2roxborotrailplan.com
This first workday of ours will include the chance to walk across this very interesting old bridge, but the actual work will be to remove trash along the banks of the Eno River and remove tires and other trash from the river as well Over the past two years we removed 50 tires and a lot of other trash from upstream of the Old Oxford Road Bridge. This is our first project removing trash from below the road, down to and beyond the rail line.
3706 Snow Hill Rd, Durham, NC 27712
Parking is available but carpool if possible!
Volunteers will need to wear boots or solid shoes, wear long plants and long sleeve shirts due to thorny plants in the area. Also, bring work gloves and water.

Removing trash from the river is a wet foot activity. We need a certain number of volunteers willing to get wet and get into the river!
