Invasive Plant Removal and Tree Planting with HAWK!
April 6th, 1-4 pm

  • What will I be doing?

Habitat and Wildlife Keepers (HAWK), the first chapter of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation, started out as the “Squirrel Lake Team”, a group of gardeners and wildlife enthusiasts who adopted Squirrel Lake Park in Matthews and turned it into a demonstration site for how individual home owners could provide the five elements of a habitat and create a haven for wildlife. Volunteers will help restore wildlife habitat at two Mathews NC Parks by clearing Kudzu, Wisteria & Honeysuckle, as well as planting trees.

  • Where do I go?

Squirrel Lake Park, 1631 Pleasant Plains Rd, Matthews, NC 28105

  • Where can I park?

Come down the gravel drive to the paved parking area. There is also parking along gravel drive if lot is full.

  • What should I bring/wear?

Participants should bring gloves, water, and pruners if possible.

  • What will be provided by the host?

A few pruners & loppers will be made available by the host.

  • Any special considerations?

Nope! Just bring big smiles and get ready to do some good.

  • What if it rains?

This is a rain or shine event. If the weather conditions prohibit a specific project from taking place, we will work with you and the project host to coordinate an alternate date.
