Community Garden Planting and Maintenance with PowerUp, NC and NCLCV!
April 13th, 1-4 pm
PowerUp NC, a project from NC League of Conservation Voters Foundation (NCLCVF), is an organizing program rooted in economic, environmental, and racial justice. We are focused on building a stronger economy, healthier environment, and a more inclusive democracy by organizing, supporting community leaders, and fostering more participation in the democratic process.
PowerUp hosts community garden plots at the Camden Street Learning Garden. The Camden Street Learning Garden is a project of the Interfaith Food Shuttle. The garden is situated on one acre of land in downtown Raleigh and features 23 community beds, a 1,600 sq. ft. market garden, a food forest, a 5,200 gallon rainwater catchment system, two beehives, a green house, a vermi-compost bin, a composting facility and a kitchen classroom. The garden provides community members with the opportunity to cultivate new relationships as they find out where their food comes from, how to grow it, and how to turn it into healthy and affordable meals.
Springtime is a busy time for growing food, and we could use help in our plots! Participants will join PowerUp staff and members to weed the garden beds, plant seeds and seed starts, and tend to vegetables and flowers that are already growing.
315 Camden St, Raleigh, NC 27601
There is street parking on Camden and a small lot in the back on E. Davie St. There is limited parking so carpool if you can!
Participants should bring sunscreen, a water bottle, and a hat for sun if you like!
NCLCV will provide gloves, tools, and water.
The paths at the garden are mulched with wood chips so they’re uneven. This could be challenging project for participants with mobility issues.
This is a rain or shine event. If the weather conditions prohibit a specific project from taking place, we will work with you and the project host to coordinate an alternate date.
