Garden Restoration and Cleanup with SEEDS!
April 13th, 1-4 pm
Founded in 1994, Southeastern Efforts Developing Sustainable Spaces (SEEDS) is a two-acre urban garden and kitchen classroom in the heart of Durham. SEEDS develops the capacity of young people to respect life, the earth, and each other through growing, cooking, and sharing food. Several areas of the garden require restoration efforts, such as the former community raised bed garden and pond. This project will involve physical, hands-on work to make these improvements, such as dividing and pulling aquatic plants, constructing raised beds, and planting late spring/summer crops. The raised beds will be open to public use for any locals who would like to garden, but do not have the space for it themselves. The pond clean-out will involve weeding, separating, and repotting aquatic plants from the overgrown pond. The primary project goal is to increase the garden’s overall capacity to serve the community by restoring and using its underutilized resources. Depending on the size of the volunteer group, the project scope can be adjusted accordingly.

Participants should bring sunscreen, bug spray, and any snacks!
SEEDS will provide gloves, tools, water, and water boots.
Be careful in the garden as it is very hilly, rocky, and uneven.
This is a rain or shine event. If the weather conditions prohibit a specific project from taking place, we will work with you and the project host to coordinate an alternate date.
