Bike Break Down – Recycling + Re-Use with the Durham Bike Co-op!
April 13th, 1-4 pm
The Durham Bicycle Cooperative is an all volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) community bicycle project. We believe bicycles have the power to make our local communities a better place through sound environmental practices, a commitment to sustainable economics and social equality, involvement and outreach with our local community, and promoting cycling as a healthy fitness and wellness activity. In 2022 the Co-op accepted 1,124 bicycles as donations. 238 adult bikes were restored and sold and 330 youth bikes were restored and given away. At the Co-op bikes that cannot be repaired are stripped for parts and the metal is recycled. Volunteers will be helping to strip parts, dismantle bicycles and load the remains into an industrial sized bin to recycle the metal. Last year the Co-op recycled 10 tons of metal. By filling the bin, volunteers will recycle old bikes and clear space at the Co-op to accept new donations.
1612 Acadia St, Durham, NC 27701 (Look for the LAST driveway on the right side of the block next to the sound barrier for I85)
