River Cleanup with Catawba Riverkeepers Foundation!
April 6th, 1-4 pm

  • What will I be doing?

Catawba Riverkeeper preserves, protects, and restores the waters of the Catawba-Wateree River basin for all through education, advocacy, and engagement. Volunteers will participate in a cleanup by the Catawba River at Iswa Nature Preserve in Charlotte, NC. Participants will wear waders to get into the water along the shoreline to remove trash.

  • Where do I go?

Iswa Nature Preserve, 9909 Wilkinson Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28214

  • Where can I park?

Parking is located at this site with plenty of very visible spaces.

  • What should I bring/wear?

Participants should wear long pants/shirts and closed-toe shoes. They would also bring a reusable water bottle and a hat.

  • What will be provided by the host?

The host with have trash bags, gloves, trash grabbers, and a limited amount of waders available at the site. Volunteers with also be provided water and snacks.

  • Any special considerations?

Nope! Just bring big smiles and get ready to do some good.

  • What if it rains?

This is a rain or shine event. If the weather conditions prohibit a specific project from taking place, we will work with you and the project host to coordinate an alternate date.

Protect, preserve, and restore the Catawba-Wateree River Basin

Catawba Riverkeeper is the only non-profit, on-the-water advocate for the entire 8,900 miles of waterways in the Catawba-Wateree River Basin. They provide accurate, science-based information about your water and the issues affecting it. The Catawba River flows through 26 counties in North and South Carolina and provides drinking water for more than 2 million residents and generates electricity for over 3 million residents. 

Engagement Opportunities:

There are a multitude of cleanup events, special projects, educational activities, recreation, and community science programs including swim guide, monofilament fishing line recycling, invasive species projects, and stream/shoreline restoration projects. Ask about ways to get involved during your volunteer project!
