About ESNC
Earth Share of North Carolina has a Positive
Impact on North Carolina
Earth Share of North Carolina is a federation of environmental non-profits
working to keep our state's rivers clean and our communities healthy
and to foster ecotourism for a strong North Carolina economy. If you want
to invest in your family, your community and your environment, you will
want to learn more about Earth Share of North Carolina.
Founded in 1991, Earth Share of North Carolina has raised more than over
$3 million to protect North Carolina's environment. Every day, Earth Share's
organizations work hard to:
- Protect our air and drinking water
- Preserve our parks, rivers, forests and heritage lands
- Prevent urban sprawl and create smart growth
- Adopt pollution prevention strategies
- Promote energy conservation
- Educate our children in the classroom and outdoors
- Improve our health and quality of life
- Restore wetlands and preserve wildlife habitat
Thanks to the direct efforts of Earth Share of North Carolina and its
organizations, the quality of life in our state is better. Less pollution
means fewer diseases and healthier crops; better forest management means
less erosion and other flooding; recycling programs mean fewer landfills
and less groundwater contamination; and more education leads to the development
of better environmental habits. The result is a healthier, more beautiful
and prosperous North Carolina.

Volunteer Opportunities
This information updated quarterly
All Earth Share of North Carolina organizations are non-profits that rely
on volunteers to help direct programs, communicate with members, educate
North Carolina citizens and govern the organization. If you want to get
involved with environmental programs in North Carolina, look through the
volunteer opportunities listed below. Go to our Earth
Share of North Carolina Group Directory to contact specific groups.
- Help out the Carnivore Preservation Trust
You can be a volunteer at CPT in Pittsboro doing everything from feeding
the animals to building cages to maintaining the compound. A variety
of opportunities are available to match your skills and interests. You
can also help them with their USDA licensing, which entails a lot of
regular cleaning and maintenance -- this is a perfect chance to make
a huge difference in their operations. Call Shannon Leisnner at 919/542-4684
or visit www.cptigers.org
or call (304) 535-6331.
- Volunteer at the Carolina Raptor Center
Assist in the rehabilitation and care of permanent resident birds, provide
environmental education, or help out in the gift shop. All it takes
is a few hours a week, and comprehensive training is provided. Contact
Lori Sparkman at 704/875-6521 ext. 102 or lorisparkman@birdsofprey.org.

- Volunteer with the NC Coastal Federation by assisting the Coastkeeper
You can help the Cape Lookout or Cape Fear Coastkeepers to patrol assigned

canoe, or kayak. Training is provided for this crucial task. Call Sheila
Brodnick at 252/393-8185 or go to www.nccoast.org.
- Become a key member of the Conservation Council of NC
Become a key member of the Conservation Council of NC's network of active
citizens by joining Conservation Keys, volunteers who take a critical
role in environmental advocacy by increasing the level of personal,
direct contact with decision-makers. A few times a year you will be
asked to respond to action alerts and contact other volunteers who have
agreed to make a call or write a letter to their lawmakers. This is
a great chance to have a direct impact on the laws that protect the
environment. Contact Carrie Clark at 919/839-0006 or carrie@conservationcouncilnc.org,
or go to www.conservationcouncilnc.org.
- Work with the Neuse River Foundation as a Creekkeeper, Streamkeeper,

schools to teach kids about the importance of clean and beautiful waters.
